About Susan

Susan Walsh was born April 1959 in La Porte, Indiana. Art was always important to Susan's family. Her father was a gifted musician and teacher of music; her mother, a diagnostician for special-needs children, became a sculptress in later life. Susan's own artistic career began with the sketches she drew in her college notebooks. After receiving a B.A. in English, Susan earned an M.Ed. from the University of Houston. She has inspired young children as a public-school teacher for the past 24 years. Encouraged by her husband, Susan began formal art training at the age of 40. She studied drawing for three years, both privately and at the local college. Color and nature are her inspiration; this is apparent in all her art.

In 2002 Susan gave birth to the beautiful girl who was to become her jewelry muse. One day Susan took her daughter's broken bracelet into a bead shop for repair. As she watched a clerk mend the bracelet, Susan decided to make jewelry for her daughter which used real stones and silver. She got stringing information from a basic class and went to work. From this beginning she extended the scope of her designs until she had created a full line of jewelry. Susan's style derives from her distinctive use of color and pattern. Her stones come from riverbeds, street fairs, and ethnic shops, as well as from traditional vendors.
